‘Ruben bray has his first outing in the british superteens at Oulton Park in the BSB Championship’

This weekend, Ruben Bray made his Superteens debut on a Rocket Racing Kawasaki. It was a challenging yet promising outing, testing both rider and machine under mixed conditions.

Qualifying & Setup Issues

From the outset, the team faced uncertainty in tyre choices, which compromised qualifying performance. Despite solid laps in practice, setup was proving challenging. To make matters worse, Ruben experienced problems with the quick shifter and blipper, leading to the decision to deactivate them before the race, this improved the feeling with the bike and Ruben felt better without them. The changing weather added another layer of difficulty, working against the paddock all weekend. This gave dad Dan Bray his own problems, short handed and working out of an unfamiliar awning fast tyre changes were not an option, so when Ruben went out on a wet front in qualifying fingers were crossed that it was the right choice. It wasn’t and Ruben qualified at the back of the grid due to a complete lack of grip, a position that did not reflect his early pace.

Race 1 – Climb Through the Field & Visor problems

Ruben started at the back of the grid. By turn three, he had already picked up 7 to 10 positions, pushing towards the middle of the pack. Momentum was building.

However, as the race progressed, his visor began steaming up badly inside the helmet, limiting visibility. Under that stress, he clipped kerbs, drifted wide, and was forced to back off in places. At one stage, he considered pulling in — but resolved to finish. Against the odds, he brought the bike home in 13th place, earning 2 championship points in his first Superteens outing. For that context, and with all the complications, it’s a result many considered a success.

Race 2 – Cancelled After Oil Spill

Unfortunately, the second Superteens race was cancelled. The reason: Peter Hickman’s BMW dropped oil on the circuit during the Superbike race, triggering a red flag and a lengthy delay. Replays show the spill covered approximately 120 metres of the racing line. Because of that incident, the Superteen’s could not run their second race under safe conditions. 🛑

Takeaways & Looking Forward

  • The hire bike came back undamaged — no crashes or major issues.

  • The Rocket / Haslam team conveyed respect for how Ruben handled adversity.

  • Over the weekend, Ruben met with contacts from Kove as a possible bike option for next season.

  • This outing cost more than it paid off — but it was worth it for the experience.

  • He showed he can race under pressure, push through mechanical failure, and keep the machine on track.

The biggest takeaway of all. Ruben’s back, full of confidence and hungry for a win. 2026 is going to be a good season. Just from the last two outings Ruben has interest from a couple of teams for next year. We are charging on with our own plan to put a team together but will not stand in the way of his progress should a better offer come along.
