Gaahleri Airbrush
‘Official Artist has a nice ring to it. Excited to be repping Gaahleri products, they really are a gamechanger’
I am not easily impressed. So when I ordered four budget range airbrush to get me through the start of the motor racing season, I did so with the attitude that they may well be disposable in the future. I am far from kind to airbrushes, unlike many of my peers I do not collect them, nor do I cherish them, I view them as tools.
I now wish I had collected them…
Looking back over 30 plus years of working with airbrushes, I have had the pleasure to work with some great companies and equipment.
In the early 90’s I was a demo artist for DevilBiss and had a hand in the development of the Aerograph Super 63 and 93, both fantastic airbrushes promoted by the equally fantastic Bob a in the airbrush division.
I was sad to hear some years later that we lost Bob before his time. What a shame and what a loss that was not just to the airbrush community but to DevilBiss as well…. great guy.
Airbrush Wars
So with my four new airbrushes in hand, I set about the backlog of helmets I had to paint. On to the line up:
Paasche VLS, a heavy duty, cheap airbrush from a trusted brand. The kit comes with three nozle sizes, its the first airbrush that I ever owned and there will always be one in my draw.
Iwata Revolution eclipse? Not sure of the model, it is the basic entry model iwata, I usually use microns, foregone conclusion that it should win hands down, I have been an Iwaya man for over twenty years.
Harder and Steenbeck Evolution CR Plus. £140, looks fancy, never owned one before and been meaning to try one for a longtime.
Gaahleri Mobius 0.3. Never heard of them before, actually caught sight of the brand on facebook, knew nothing. Currently £59.99 on the Gaahleri website
The Results are in…
My original idea was to do an airbrush shootout and start testing a few different products for the site. There is a new “tips and tricks” section planned which will be a great resource for anyone wanting to learn to airbrush.
Something unexpected happened. Something that shouldnt have happened.
The Gaahleri won…….it didn’t just win, it won hands down.
God Tier Airbrush
Over the course of the last four projects my little Mobius has had everything thrown at it. Two pack clear coat, metallics that should not go through a .3 and it has fired all kinds of solvent and water based paint.
It has been dropped, soaked in paint, soaked in thinners, left overnight full of paint and dried out at least three times. It has performed at way too high and way to low of a pressure and it has been subjected to extreme heat and cold.
And it hasn’t missed a beat.
Even more impressive is the fact that it hasnt been stripped or cleaned in that period of time, I can count on one hand the amount of times the needle has actually been out of it.
The others? Say less.
I had to let the team at Gaahleri know. They are lovely people, we had a long chat about plans, goals and our beliefs. That resulted in a working partnership which means I am now an Official Gaahleri Artist.
I cannot wait to try more of the Gaahleri range, hopefully help with some development and I am especially keen to try the range of paints.
But for now join me as I learn more about Gaahleri, so far I know that they make a great airbrush and have some really cool marketing material, lets see what else we can find out….
