‘Mclaren ceramic grey is now my go to grey for custom paint’

It was an honour to be asked to match a Mclaren 600lt with a custom painted helmet. Not only have Mclaren had a great F1 season but they are also known for making some great cars with exceptional attention to detail and a flawless finish, we knew the helmet had to be good.

I really wasn’t sure about the flat grey, the car looks amazing in pictures but I couldn’t find two pictures the same, it seemed to change colour under different lights. Mclaren do not release the paint codes for their cars, so a bit of detective work was undertaken to come up with the right shade. What a great colour, grey with what seems like a tint of blue or violet, it works and it works well!

Simple but not Easy

There is no where to hide on a job like this, the colours need to be clean the lines need to be sharp and the logo’s that are all airbrushed need to be crisp. Perfection is impossible to achieve but thats what the aim is at the start of every job.

It also means that the helmets last. I still have a race helmet from the early 2000’s that just needs a polish to shine despite being thrown into the back of the garage.
