when Rich approached us for a retro honda design..

‘This took me back to the 80’s and 90’s, rothmans hondas and rc30’s, what a time to be a biker’

Rich gave me some inspiration, pictures of the official Arai RC 30 lid and pictures of his very special CBR. There was not a lot of room in the brief to get super creative as Rich wanted to keep a classic look.

Colour changes everything

I switched around a few of the colours to give it a bit more of a retro look, airbrushed an oversize Arai logo on the front of the helmet and used Rich’s number 57 to replace the two Arai logo’s on the sides, I was pleased with this touch, quite unique and in keeping with the original idea. The only other thing I did was play with some colours, added a few pearls here and there but kept it clean.

Simple but not Easy

There is no where to hide on a job like this, the colours need to be clean the lines need to be sharp and the logo’s that are all airbrushed need to be crisp. Perfection is impossible to achieve but thats what the aim is at the start of every job.

What does that mean? It means everything is painted and we get the helmet as smooth as possible so that there are none of those nasty edges that ruin a design when you get up close.

My work is extremely tactile. 

It also means that the helmets last. I still have a race helmet from the early 2000’s that just needs a polish to shine despite being thrown into the back of the garage.
